As an entrepreneur you have something so special to offer the world. And, more importantly you have WORKED your way into a spot where you DESERVE to share your gift with others.
To make sure you stay on track, and don’t give into distractions, surround yourself with reminders of what you want. Create a clear statement that puts into words your desires for the next 1 – 5 years. Visualizing will make is so. Visualize!
You have to BELIEVE your dreams are possible to make them happen and so turn your dreams into goals with timelines and measurable steps. This is nothing new but putting it into practice may be something new for you. You need to CLAIM your craft/business idea/service – whatever it is that makes you unique. To claim your spot in this competitive world use the technique of repetition and embrace your power that you hold within yourself.
Repetition – inside your house, on the inside of your wallet, as your screen saver and on any other surface you interact with each day paste your power words with a defining statement. For me, I pasted I AM A WRITER and OWN MY OWN BUSINESS on every surface that I saw each day including the bathroom mirror, my screensaver at work, all my old passwords alluded to these word and each day I would write these words down in a journal (along with the steps to get there) and repeat them EACH morning and EACH night. I did this for one full year before I was able to make it happen. The power of repetition is to eliminates the possibility of an exit strategy or giving up which is a much easier task. If you ARE these things – you ARE these things. Period. There is no “if” there is only “when”. These ideas become so much a part of you that you make the shift from “I am a part time writer, on the side, sometimes” to “I am a writer” Period. No excuses, no maybe and no exit.
Step 2 is to put it into action in the world. TELL EVERYONE! Tell everyone you know that you are what you are – don’t tell them what you do or what you want to do – tell them what you ARE.
As an entrepreneur you already are what drives you – the drive and the power lives inside you and makes itself known every day. Don’t hide it anymore – talk about it until it flows out of your mouth with such ease and confidence that there is ZERO hesitation.
After declaring I am a writer (and over time the shy disappears and the pride takes over) to everyone I meet I became known as a writer first and everything else second. The world began to offer me unbelievable writing opportunities that made me think it was all too good to be true. But, it wasn’t. I worked those opportunities and had enough business to venture out on my own.
Once I opened up and whole new world opened up right back. I still have to pinch myself. Open yourself to the possibility – let your heart speak your true passion and the world WILL respond.
