Having one year under my belt, now, allows me to be standing just outside the new kids club. I have managed business and clients through 4 seasons and more importantly, I now have a platform to manage my own expectations.

I started out with the idea of being a writer – what a magical brilliant idea! I am in love with the idea of being a writer, and I hope I always will be. What I love the most about it is the ability to morph, and morph I have, believe me.

This year as I begin to set out goals and expectations what I am seeking is the ability to define my business clearly and honestly. The trouble with this is that I want to stay open to opportunity so defining my business will create close opportunities elsewhere. And you know what, that is ok. It is ok but it is still a hard idea to wrap my head around. The one thing I have to trust as I being to narrow my gap is my gut. To date, it has never lead me astray.

What is so cool about building your business is how one idea, or one experience, leads into the next and how eventually – months later I mean – you start to understand how events are beginning to connect. It is almost impossible, if not impossible, to articulate what you are until you have had a chance to live it. When you finally see little strands of one idea connecting to another idea and how they could start to be one thing that is part of a bigger thing – you feel like ….how did I miss this?? And, quite frankly, a little relieved that you are seeing how your ideas are slowly coming together.

The most frustrating part of this process is the wait. You simply have to live through some experiences and wait for the magic to reveal itself to you. In my experience, it can’t be forced BECAUSE it won’t be authentic. The reason you have to wait is in part that the people you meet and the conversations you have will fuel these connections. It is only in time that you will start to see how connections relate to you. It is by talking to others – and talking about yourself – that you start to see how helping one is related to helping another…….and then the ah-ha moment happens!

Trust me – it is worth the wait.

It feels at first like you are in one lane and then switching to another lane and then another but really what you are doing is weaving one idea into the next and you just don’t know the outcome yet. The best thing to do is to enjoy the journey and to pay attention to the wisdom that each experience offers so that you can gather what you need from each experience – and you won’t know what you need until suddenly the lightbulb goes off. We spend a lot of time planning for the future but one of the best gifts you can give yourself, as an entrepreneur, is to be in the now. I have always been a fan of enjoying where you are now for all the planning in the world may not lead you to what your future pace promised to deliver. The future, to me, is the biggest mystery and one that is far beyond my control so I let it be and let it fuel itself while I sit in the now and take in everything I can.

The ordinary is quite remarkable if we let it be.

Until next time – dream, experience and love your life.
